Serendipity Saturdays: A letter to future generations.

Dear Future Generations,

You don’t know me. I’m that girl that made a mark on the world in her own little way and in her own little group of people. You don’t need to know me to know this, I am long gone and you are here living on this earth this very moment. Don’t take your life for granted. Cherish every single moment you get because you don’t ever know if your life will end tomorrow. Be kind to everyone you see. Don’t get down on yourself even in the darkest of times. You can be your OWN light and you can be a light to everyone around you. You can change the world. You can do ANYTHING you put your mind too. Have you heard this speech before? Well listen to it again because all of it is true. Don’t seek perfect in an imperfect world. Seek beauty in the little things. The way someone laughs, the way they smile, the way they make their coffee, the way they read. Admire the sunrises and sunsets. Find beauty in every single moment of every single day. Beauty is present whether you know it or not. You ARE beautiful. You are worth it. You can do this. Breath and take a moment. Your life will turn into something great I promise you that IF you head down the right path. Enjoy the quiet moments you have to yourself. It helps you become closer with yourself. Let yourself experience pain, it will make you stronger. Fall in love, slowly then all at once. Believe in yourself and everyone around you. Trust yourself. Dream, live, laugh, love, learn, hope, believe, dance. Eat until your satisfied and let that be the end of it. Run, run so much that your legs burn. Think for yourself. Focus on the good in life. Remember this; happiness is not found in things you possess but in what you have the courage to release. No one is ever in charge of your happiness except for you and only YOU. Smile every chance you get and most of all love yourself and God with all your heart and everything will fall into place.

Most Sincerely, the girl you CAN be.

Serendipity Saturdays: On Finding your “thing”.

Finding your thing can be hard. You may think you don’t have a ‘thing’. Well…I’m here to tell you that you do have one. Now when I say ‘thing’ I guess I would say that I’m talking about what you like to do such as your hobbies.

My ‘thing’ didn’t come the easiset way possible. I mean I played different sports when I was younger and that was defiently not my forte. It still may be like this for you now. Your sitting there thinking….what do I genualy enjoy doing?

About two years ago I started cooking for my family. Back then I was getting into the whole healthy lifestyle bit and I wanted to cook healthier too so I decieded I would try cooking. Here I am to tell you that I am in love with cooking to this day! To me it is not a burden or a chore or something I HAVE to do. It’s something I enjoy, it’s a stress reliever and a creative outlet for me.

So today I am eating healthier with the occasional treat and let me tell you, I am so glad that I tried out cooking! I fell in love with it. Over the years I’ve also loved to read. Reading isn’t exactly a ‘thing’ I can do but it make me think and gets me to be creative. I have also found that I love to write, one of the reasons why I started this blog. Alot of people may not read it but I like to write out my feelings, share my recipes and such. Reading has helped me become a better writer and so has starting this blog.

On my 13th birthday I received a camera from my grandparents. I took up photography. At first my photography wasn’t the greatest, but I mean who starts out great? There is this quote that hung on the wall in my fourth grade year that said, “Anyone who is an expert was once a beginner”. Now that is the truth. Take any basketball player for example or any chef, writer, or actor. They were once beginners and so are you! Don’t get down on yourself!

I took pictures with flash and food pictures like that too….I look back at them now and am quite embarrassed. BUT!, I have improved and have come to enjoy photography in addition to writing and cooking. I love to photograph the food I make and my everyday life.

The shadow....OMGoodnes!

The shadow….OMGoodnes!

Finding your thing is not exactly easy. You may have to try different things over spans of time. Try them again! Your interests may have changed! I’m here to tell you it’s possible and YOU CAN DO IT!

Much love, Brianna.

Serendipity Saturdays: On Aggressively Seeking Beauty in Life.

So I’m starting this new thing on my blog called, ‘Serendipity Saturday’. Basically I’ll be talking about different topics that I’ve been inspired by and hopefully it will inspire you in your everyday life. I chose the word serendipity because of it meaning;

noun: serendipity; plural noun: serendipities
  1. the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
    “a fortunate stroke of serendipity”
It also has a way of rolling off the tongue and it sounds pretty. Today I will be talking about how I am aggressively seeking beauty in life.
So this concept was newly introduced to me when my Wednesday night teacher at church encouraged us to go throughout our daily lives and, “aggressively seek beauty”. I am absolutely in love with this concept and it helps me look at my life differently.
Seeking beauty in my life at first was a little hard. I was looking so hard but not finding anything. BUT then when I wasn’t trying to seek beauty it came to me. It was in the little way and in the little things.
I seeked beauty in nature. The beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The way the birds chirped and the way the air felt on my skin. I found it in things. Watching a movie that was inspiring, reading a book, in quotes, photography, cooking food. I also found it in people. The way they live their life or the way they act. The kindness of their words and their gestures to others.
Seeking beauty to me at first seemed like an absolute hard concept. But then when I didn’t try to seek it, it came to me instantly and it has made my life enjoyable and I take time to enjoy the little things.
I find beauty in doing the things that I love. Cooking, photography, and writing. I have been finding beauty in my friends. How much they support me and how I can keep going because of them.
I want to thank Hannah Perry for introducing me to the concept of looking at daily life as a blessing. It has changed by life tremulously and I am better for it today!
Try looking for beauty in your life and leave a comment telling me how you found it! Much love, Brianna.

May Self-Portrait Challenge

So May has come and gone. This month tended to go by slowly for me which has been a pretty good thing. School got out and summer is in full gear! I’m really excited for tans and swimming, cooking, blogging, vacations, and other things. Here’s to summer, friends!

That stray hair is bothering me. Is it bothering you?

Dramatic glance at the grass and my shoulder….ummm.

Thought of the family of Ryan Cruz today. Story is on Diary of an Addict’s blog. Go read.

This plant intrigues me.
